UTGSU health & dental plan: Empower Me
As part of the UTGSU Health & Dental Plan, you have access to Empower Me—a student assistance program (SAP) that is a confidential, short-term, solution-focused mental health and well-being service designed specifically to address issues faced by today’s students.
Empower Me includes a platform that connects students to a variety of health professionals, with an uncapped model—an important feature that ensures that students receive the care that they need. It also includes a program that connects students with counsellors, psychologists, and other health professionals to offer specialized support that aims at providing preventive measures, as well as proactive strategies and services for students (e.g. financial planning, financial literacy, school/life balance, cultural adaptation).
From reducing waiting periods to removing barriers, Empower Me aims to provide continuity of care for students and their diverse needs. A student who was assigned to a particular counsellor can opt to continue their sessions with the same counsellor while they have access to the program. Students can use Empower Me in the modality most convenient for them.
Empower Me can be reached 24/7/365 toll-free via phone by students anywhere in Canada or the US, or via a mobile app (available for download in Canada) 24/7/365 crisis support with trained crisis counsellors In-person and videoconferencing counselling options by appointment to provide face-to-face care, to assist on-campus counselling with addressing this demand.
