Upcoming Orientation Events for New Grad Students

Wondering where to get started as a new graduate student? Here are a number of options for domestic and international students. Some require pre-registration, so be sure to check details before the event date!

1. CIE Services Expo for New International Students

When: August 31, 11-3 pm
Where: Centre for International Experience, 33 St. George St.

No registration required. Details.

Are you a new international or exchange student who has recently arrived in Toronto? Make the CIE Services Expo one of your first stops. Connect with a variety of service providers and learn about phone plans, banking, food options, Toronto attractions and more. Find all the information you need in one place!

2. SGS Orientation for New Graduate Students

When: September 4 (3 sessions), 10 am to 12 pm; 2 pm to 4 pm; 5 pm to 7 pm
Where: Medical Sciences Building, 1 King’s College Circle, JJR Macleod Auditorium

Meet fellow students, attend an information fair, hear panel discussions, and take a campus tour. Three panel sessions available.

3. UTGSU Gradfest for All Graduate Students

When: September 5, 4-7 pm

No registration required. Details.

Calling all incoming and returning graduate students! Join us for UTGSU’s annual Fall Orientation: GRADFEST! Enjoy a day filled with free food, swag bags, games and a chance to learn about all the services provided through the UTGSU. You’ll also get the chance to interact with awesome graduate-specific information tables that will highlight all of the resources around campus. 4. CIE Welcome Reception for New International Students

When: September 14, 12-2 pm
Where: Centre for International Experience, 33 St. George St.

The Centre for International Experience (CIE) invites all new international and exchange students to a free lunch! Come by and meet new friends, enjoy good music, participate in some activities, and connect with others.

5. Orientation for Students with Family Responsibilities

When: September 15, 2018, 10 am – 2 pm
Where: OISE, 252 Bloor Street West

If you’re a student parent, attend this session to learn how to start building your support networks, how to be proactive and prepared, and how to successfully navigate your degree while caring for others.

  • Meet other student parents and University staff
  • Learn about the services and resources available to student parents on campus
  • Get advice from student mentors on how to adjust to the University life
  • Discover family friendly spaces on campus

Child care and lunch will be provided.

Please register early, space is limited! All University of Toronto students and their partners/children are welcome. Please let us know if you have any mobility challenges or dietary restrictions so we can accommodate your needs.

6. Transitioning to Gradlife: Strategies for Personal Development, Academic Success & Making Connections

When: September 24, 9 am-3 pm
Where: Main Activity Hall (Multi-Faith Centre)

Incoming graduate students: Join a day of programming to help you make the transition to grad life. Learn effective strategies for academic success and personal wellness, talking to people and making connections, and navigating campus services, as well as tips for success from current grad students. Lunch will be included.
