Sign up for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition!

Your graduate research. 3 minutes. 1 slide.

U of T’s beloved Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition is back!

Every year, the 3MT challenges graduate students across the three campuses to present their research to a generalist audience in 3 minutes or less. Participants will move through the preliminary heats, with winners advancing to the semi-finals, and then the final, where they’ll present to an audience of their peers as well as a panel of judges from across the university. Win that, and you’ll get to compete in the provincial-level competition. Win that, and you can showcase your research at the national and international level.

Who is it for? All graduate students registered in a doctoral program or a master’s program with a thesis component at the time of the 3MT competition.

Why participate? A chance to develop your oral presentation skills, profile your research, and connect with your peers. (Bonuses: Fun and glory, plus cash prizes for first, second, and third place.)

Competition dates: Heats will begin on February 20, with the final taking place on March 26. See the full competition schedule with dates and times on our website. All are welcome to attend the final to cheer on their friends and colleagues.

Sign me up! Please complete the registration form by 1 pm on February 2. We’ll contact you with details about your heat by February 12.

This year, all registrants are required to attend either an in-person or online version of the workshop Preparing your 3MT Presentation facilitated by Dr. Cristina D’Amico.
