Apply to the Sustainable Development Goals Student Advisory Committee

Are you passionate about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Apply to join the U of T Student Advisory Committee!

In December 2020, two Institutional Strategic Initiatives virtual workshops brought together U of T faculty, graduate students and trainees from a range of disciplines to identify the practical steps and actions the University can take to advance progress on each of the SDGs. Over 120 workshop participants from all three campuses and over 25 disciplines actively participated. Based on the engagement and enthusiasm received, we are keen to move forward a proposal for an Institutional Strategic Initiative (ISI) for the University. The aim is to build on existing research initiatives, form new interdisciplinary and global partnerships, and produce a map for advancing the UN SDGs at U of T.

To initiate a thoughtful and inclusive planning process, we are calling for applications for the Sustainable Development Goals Student Advisory Committee.  Meaningful stakeholder engagement is a crucial component of successful SDG research and education. As such, a Student Advisory Committee will be convened to support the development of the broader vision of this SDG network and its associated activities at the University of Toronto.  The selected Student Advisory Committee members will lend their expertise to:

  • support all activities of the Steering Committee, including the development of the ISI proposal, as outlined below;
  • engage the broader student body throughout the proposal development process, with particular attention to engaging with students from programs and departments at all three U of T campuses and at both the graduate and undergraduate level; and,
  • develop a centralized model for ongoing student engagement in student SDG research and related activities across the University that ensures diversity, accountability, sustainability, appropriate recognition and authentic engagement.
