Richard Kil recognized at 3MT Canada

Congratulations to Richard Kil of the Department of Chemistry for being the first U of T doctoral student to place in the national finals of the Three Minute Thesis Competition! Richard’s presentation “Blood Testing with Baker’s Yeast” earned second in the competition, which was won by University of Guelph Master’s student Shanthanu Krishna Kumar.

Tragically Hip guitarist Rob Baker, one of the 3MT judges, praised Kil’s presentation as “calm, authoritative and methodical,” noting that “in 3 minutes, [Richard] led us through why he got involved in this research, how it could make a difference, through the trials and results, to a conclusion that should make our hearts soar with hope for many of the world’s most vulnerable.” Read more about Baker’s reflections on the CAGS website.
