Message from the Director of the Centre for International Experience (CIE)

Welcome to the University of Toronto community. We’re delighted you’ve chosen to make U of T the next step in your education, and look forward to helping you make the most of your time at the University.

To assist in your transition to the University, I would like to provide you with some important pre-arrival information specific to international students.

  • Study Permit: If you haven’t already done so, apply for your study permit – and entry visa or electronic travel authorization — as soon as possible.
  • Health Insurance: All international students will automatically be enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). You will receive a separate email message with instructions about how to print your UHIP card. You will also automatically be enrolled in the supplementary health insurance for U of T students (details are available on the Centre for International Experience website).
  • Airport Welcome Booth: If you will arrive in Toronto via Pearson International Airport, you will find a friendly face and assistance in getting to your destination at the U of T welcome booth. Booths will be located in Terminals 1 and 3, from August 21 to September 10.

Don’t miss the International Grad Step Up Pre-Orientation on August 31. In early September, the team based at the Centre for International Experience (CIE) will run a welcome program to further assist you with your questions and concerns about settling in to U of T and the City of Toronto. I encourage you to attend these events in addition to your faculty or college’s orientation. You can also contact the team at CIE with any questions or concerns.

In the meantime, we hope that your preparations are going smoothly. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Katherine Beaumont
