Incoming multilingual students: Academic Conversation Skills is for you

The Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC) at the University of Toronto would like to draw your attention to a course in January aimed at equipping you to navigate the academic conversations you will encounter in your graduate degree.

Our Academic Conversation Skills (ACS) course is for multilingual graduate students who are new to U of T and who wish to improve their English listening and speaking skills in order to communicate more effectively and confidently in an academic environment. If you have difficulty participating in class discussion or speaking to your classmates and professors, either online or in-person, this course is designed to meet your needs. Over 6 weeks, through active student participation and reflection, ACS will help you gain conversational confidence in academia as it guides you through topics such as how to ask and answer challenging questions, how to disagree respectfully, and how to manage academic interactions sensitively.

2 sections:

Fridays, Jan 16 – Feb 20, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. (in person at the St. George campus)

Tuesdays, Jan 20 – Feb 24, 2–4 p.m. (online)

Use this link to register for this or other GCAC courses. You will need your U of T issued UTORid and password to register, and you may sign up for up to 2 courses at a time.
