Getting started as a graduate researcher

If you are a new master’s or PhD student, you probably have lots of questions! Many aspects of graduate education rely on things that you’re expected to know without anyone actually explaining them to you. In this workshop on September 17, from 12 to 1 p.m., we will discuss common practices and principles of graduate education that are often left implicit. We’ll consider a range of topics designed to help you understand your new role as a graduate student:

  • the major differences between undergraduate and graduate education
  • the choices you need to make early in graduate study
  • learning how to work with a supervisor
  • the timing and importance of professional development activities

This workshop covers content on your development as a researcher that will be most relevant to research-stream master’s and PhD students; however, all students who have recently started a new graduate degree at U of T are welcome to register on our events website
