ILP Experiential Outing: Fire Skills & Storytelling with the High Park Nature Centre (in-person, off-campus)

Oct 14, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm | Register for Fire Skills & Storytelling

Connect back to the land and learn about High Park ecology through this action-packed program which will explore how the roles of storytelling and fire have shaped us as humans. Share and gather new naturalist skills, practice using flint and steel and tinder bundles, and share warmth and stories around a fire. You’ll have the option to roast a tasty snack over the flames to close out the day.

Students will be put on the waitlist when registering for this event. Spots are limited and they will be prioritized for the Intercultural Learning Program (ILP) participants before opening them to the rest of the students.

This event is part of the Intercultural Learning Program (ILP). Learn more about the Intercultural Learning Program by visiting the Center for International Experience – Events & Programs webpage and find out how the program works to get Co-Curricular Record (CCR) recognition.

Have you ever encountered a situation where you and another person hear the same thing and yet, end up with different interpretations? The way we act and the values and attitudes we hold are influenced by our identities and the social environments we grew up in. The workshop aims to support you to build connections beyond your cultural identities and learn how assumptions, biases, and stereotypes impact communication. Through a series of interactive activities, discussions, and case scenarios, we will learn to develop strategies for communicating and collaborating more effectively across differences.
