Mar. 27: Excellence is Black Inaugural Awards Celebration

Excellence is Black is a celebration of Black achievement, an opportunity to build community across post-graduate and professional programs, and a call for a future generation of Black students to pursue higher education. The awards program is an extension of the great work being done by Black student associations in graduate faculties and a way to connect Black graduate and professional students during their studies.

EiB will become an annual awards night and a sustainable fund to support rising Black professionals. Awards will be given to students with demonstrated financial need and a proven commitment to community leadership in advancing social equity and/or outstanding contributions to the Black community. The launch of the endowment will be announced at the inaugural awards day on March 27, 2021.

The keynote speaker is Colin Lynch of the Black Opportunity Fund and Dahabo Ahmed Omer of the BlackNorth Initiative, which has already received pledges from leaders of over 300 top Canadian companies, will also be speaking.

The event highlights the presence and achievements of Black post-graduate students across U of T’s three campuses and will inspire and support more Black youth to grow the talent pool for management and C-suite positions in every industry.

We are excited to continue elevating Black voices in Canada. For more information on the award and launch event, visit the giving page and Eventbrite registration.
