Enhancements to the SGS Parental Grant
Retroactive to the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, SGS Parental Grants will increase in both value and duration for both birth parents and non-birth or adoptive parents. Grant values of up to $5,833 per session are available for the primary caregiver of a newborn or newly adopted child during an approved leave for up to two academic sessions (equivalent to eight months). Birth parents who have been granted a three-session leave (12 months) can also apply for a third additional installment of up to $5,833.
While students can initiate the grant application process, graduate units are asked to complete and support the application.
About the SGS Parental Grant:
Established in 2017, the SGS Parental Grant provides financial assistance to full-time domestic and international students in the funded cohort of a research-stream doctoral program who experience a loss or reduction in funding during an approved parental leave of absence.
