Becoming a mentor with The University of Toronto Saturday program

Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to volunteer with the Saturday Program (U of T St. George). The Saturday Program is the largest community outreach program under the U of T Medical Society. Since 1996, we have provided free tutoring and mentorship to support high school students in Toronto in advancing their educational goals. We are currently recruiting volunteers for our 2023-2024 sessions. There are two types of volunteer roles, please see below for details!

How does the program work? This year our program will be running in-person at the University of Toronto St. George Campus. During a typical program day, you will meet your student mentee one-on-one for homework help and other discussions. You are required to participate from 9 am-1 pm. You will be matched to one mentee and tutor them for 1.5 hours. There will be a break between 11:15 am-12:15 pm, during which we host workshops for high school students; volunteers are encouraged but not mandatory to attend the workshops.

Time commitment: The program start date is January 13, 2024 and will run for 10 Saturdays thereafter with April 6, 2023 being the last session. To receive CCR recognition, volunteers must attend at least 8 of the 10 sessions, although you are encouraged and expected to attend all 10.

What are the available volunteer roles?

Volunteer tutors: You will be tutoring two students each session (one for the morning and one for the afternoon session). These two students will remain your mentees throughout the program, unless rematching is necessary.

Core volunteers: You will assist with program logistics by taking attendance, facilitating workshops, technical support, etc.. Core volunteers may also serve as substitute tutors in the event of tutor absence.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please fill out the volunteer form.
