Become a member of U of T’s new Data Sciences Institute (DSI)

We are excited to let you know about the launch of the Data Sciences Institute (DSI) at the University of Toronto. This is a new Institutional Strategic Initiative at U of T, focused on all things data science at the University, including research, training and partnerships.   

The DSI is a university-wide, tri-campus initiative, with financial contributions from nine U of T divisions and three external research institute partners. The DSI recently launched its website and is welcoming members from all units across U of T and its contributing external partners.

Professor Lisa Strug (Director) and her team are establishing the DSI, which include the following activities: 

  • New website:    
  • Launch event –  September 17, 1:00-4:30 pm featuring keynote presentations by internationally recognized scholars. Complete speaker and programme details are available  on our website. This is a virtual event and all are welcome to join.
  • Call for Membership – Open to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or research staff from all U of T units and DSI-affiliated institutes/organizations. The DSI will make over $6 Million Dollars in grant funding available to members through various collaborative programs. 
  • Catalyst Grants – The DSI first major funding opportunity, offers up to $100,000 of funding for Collaborative Research Teams focused on the development of new data science methodology, or the use of existing methodology in innovative ways to address questions of major societal importance.
