An introduction to community-based research for graduate students

This one-hour online workshop for graduate students will introduce the theory and practice of community-based research, and best practices for working with community members and organizations in research contexts. The approach of community-based research is characterized by being: community-driven, participatory, and action-oriented. Facilitators from the University of Toronto’s Centre for Community Partnerships will present key concepts, lead reflective discussions, and share resources. By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Describe the hallmarks of Community-Engaged Research (CER) and Community-Based Research (CBR)
  • Reflect on your goals for researching in partnership with a community partner
  • Contextualize community-university engagement
