Toronto Reel Asian International Film Screening: Masala Chai

Join CIE during the Toronto Reel International Asian Film Festival as we go watch the documentry: Masala Chai by director Marco Hülser!

This beautiful story of tea making follows the lives of several Indian tea makers (Chai Wallahs). Despite having the same occupation, these Chai Wallahs live totally different lives in their state. Through these portraits of Chai Wallahs, this movie gives a unique and authentic perspective of the diversity of culture within Indian society. From the contrast of rich and poor, role allocation of women and men, and changing ways of the India’s youth from the traditions of old, this movie will show the intricacies of culture and how dynamic and wonderful the world is.

The film screening includes a conversation at the end between the film maker and Professor Jayeeta Sharma.

*Please note:
We will hold up a sign in the lobby so the group can meet briefly a half hour before the film starts.  We will also find a nearby place after the film for additional conversation and light refreshments. Registrants will receive an email with any updates/meeting details if needed.
