2027-28 Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD Scholarship – deadline October 2

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is pleased to announce that its annual doctoral scholarship competition is open.

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD Scholarship program aims to highlight excellence in the humanities and social sciences and address issues that are relevant to Canada’s future. Applicants must be in the first or second year of their PhD at the time of application and must be conducting research in the humanities and social science related to at least one of the Foundation’s four themes:

  • Human Rights and Dignity
  • Responsible Citizenship
  • Canada and the World
  • People and their Natural Environment

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD Scholarship offers more than funding. It connects engaged doctoral students with a community of researchers, mentors and leaders working to advance ideas that matter for Canada and the world. The scholarship is designed for doctoral students who want to go beyond academia, grow through mentorship, and contribute to major societal issues through their research. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD Scholars will receive:

  • Up to $50,000 per year for three years to cover tuition and living expenses during their doctoral research.
  • Up to $20,000 per year for three years to support research, networking, and travel related to the doctoral project and Foundation programming.
  • Membership in a dynamic community of scholars, mentors, and fellows, all recognized for excellence in their respective fields; and lifelong membership in the Foundation’s alumni network, which includes over 500 individuals.
